From Mashable -- Powerset, we hardly knew ya. The much-hyped
natural language search engine has been acquired by Microsoft for north of $100 million according to VentureBeat. The search engine, which presently only lets you search Wikipedia articles, works by allowing users to enter in queries the way they would speak them, for example, searching for "what is the numeric value of pi?" as opposed to typing "pi numeric value" on Google or Yahoo. Hence, the name "natural search."

From Mashable --
Say you’re fluent in English, and want to reach a distant cousin that’s rooted instead in a different language. Spanish or Portuguese or Russian, perhaps. And say you’re both well-connected with current technologies. You’re each into the SMS thing. If so, and you’d like to translate (accurately) quick messages as you send them out to the desired recipient(s), Lingtastic might be worth your while.
Leaving aside Lingtastic’s slightly off-putting presentation - my sense is it’s a little too heavy on the crayons - its model for SMS translation is pretty straightforward and potentially quite useful.

From the ReadWriteWeb -- Earlier today we mentioned a plugin for AIM that would translate what you type on the fly into another language. That's an exceptionally useful tool, but the far more fluid and accurate way to speak to people in another language, is to actually learn the language.
Thankfully, there are a wide variety of ways to learn languages online, many of them available for free. Below is a list of more than 20 ways you can go from knowing how to say "Hello" to fluency.

Among those who play is my own son, Tyler.
"I just play with random people around the world."
"
Occasionally someone will come in with like Spanish, French or some form of Asian language," Tyler said.
But that’s not the language issue parents should be concerned about.
