From Canada.com -- British Columbia spent $2.4 million last year developing curriculum for high school students who want to learn Asian languages - including Mandarin - online, documents obtained by the B.C. Teachers' Federation reveal.
The expenditure raises new questions about Premier Gordon Campbell's announcement late last month that Beijing has agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to develop online Mandarin language and Chinese culture courses for B.C. high school students.
