Tying Globalization together through language
There are over 6000 languages spoken in the world. The top five spoken languages are Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, English, Arabic and Standard Hindi.
Is there anything about that list that surprises you? One who was born in America may never have guessed that English was not the number one language in the world. If the person was born in Canada she may never know that French didn't even make the top 10.
The people of this world are becoming increasingly dependent upon one another. While there are challenges that are inherent with people coming together for common goals, there are also certain benefits that cannot be over looked.
We have more opportunity for understanding than any other time in history. With the use of the Internet, we can learn about the differences and establish new relationships based on shared goals. There is ample opportunity to make the world a better place.
Technology
If there was ever a way to easily visualize the global impact of language it is through the technological arena. Have you checked to see where your products are made? How about the software that your computer uses to help you function on a daily basis?
If you are one of the billions that use a computer, then you know that what you use can be customized to your language of origin. The Internet is the next thing to fall in line. Many websites are starting to offer their services in different languages. Why? It is because there is an increasing population that is coming on-line and not all of them speak English.
To know a second and even third language is a befit to potential employers and can mean the difference between earning a sustainable wage and living below the global poverty line.
Language is fundamental to all communication. To misunderstand its importance is to misunderstand how the world operates.
